3 Vikings QBs in COVID-19 protocols after Mond reportedly tests positive
The Minnesota Vikings were without three quarterbacks for Saturday's practice due to COVID-19 protocols.
Kirk Cousins and Nate Stanley were both deemed high-risk close contacts after rookie passer Kellen Mond tested positive for COVID-19, a source told ESPN's Courtney Cronin.
Head coach Mike Zimmer addressed the club's situation, telling the media, "that's why people should get vaccinated," according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
"This Delta variant is tough and you can see the cases going up. For the sake of everybody, it's important, but some don't see it that way," Zimmer added.
The league requires high-risk close contacts to isolate for five days. Fully vaccinated players don't have to do so after exposure.
Jake Browning was the lone Vikings quarterback under center during Saturday night's session. He had an impressive showing, hitting Adam Thielen on multiple deep passes, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Minnesota signed Browning as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and he has spent time on the club's practice squad. He's yet to attempt an NFL pass.
The Vikings later placed Cousins, Mond, and Stanley on the COVID-19 list, according to the NFL's transaction wire.
