Set software as default

I have installed Irfanview image viewer (a Windows program)on my Linux Mint 20.2 and it works well
I used WINE to install it.
I tried to set it as my default image viewer and the system wouldn't take it , it kept reverting to the previous default. I tried Nomacs which is nearly as good and can set it as default (no problem), is it not possible to set a WINE/Windows program as default?
