Hamilton man, 70, charged in collision with cyclist

A 70-year-old man has been charged by Hamilton Police with careless driving causing bodily harm, in the aftermath of a collision that put a 38-year-old cyclist in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

In a news release police did not name the male cyclist, or the driver of the automobile involved in the collision.

The cyclist is still in hospital for treatment and listed in stable condition."

The incident happened Thursday, July 22 just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Bay Street South and Jackson Street West.

According to police, the cyclist was riding northbound on Bay Street in a bike lane, and the driver of a 2018 BMW was also northbound on Bay. The driver of the automobile stopped for traffic before proceeding to make a left turn onto Jackson Street, in front of the bicycle," causing the collision.

Police are asking for witnesses who saw the collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at (905)-546-4753 or (905)-546-4755.
