The New Jersey Devils signed forward Tomas Tatar to a two-year contract worth $9 million, the team announced Thursday.

Tatar was one of the top remaining unrestricted free agents.

Tomas Tatar, signed 2x$4.5M by NJ, has simply been one of the league's most effective 5v5 offence creators in the past three seasons. This is a major discount considering his recent body of work. #NJDevils pic.twitter.com/DxapHkdzZV

He spent the last three years with the Montreal Canadiens and put up 30 points in 50 regular-season games in 2021. However, he was a frequent healthy scratch during the club's run to the Stanley Cup Final.

Despite falling out of favor in the Habs' lineup, Tatar should be a seamless fit in New Jersey's top six alongside either Jack Hughes or Nico Hischier.

Tatar's also suited up for the Detroit Red Wings and Vegas Golden Knights during his 10-year NHL career. The Slovakia native has registered 377 points in 625 career games.
