Hola Amigos ....switching to slacware from arch
by david_slack from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5N302)
So recently i switched to Slackware having used Arch linux for 'bout a year and Mint for the first few months of switching to linux and the journey till now has been great with slackware and the community is just so awesome , glad to be a part or this family.
Why i switched ?
well actually i just thought maybe should try out something new , i am a high schooler so lol i have a bit more spare time than adults ;-) , and my Arch installation became pretty stable i was no more breaking stuff and had a bunch of automation and scripts and other tweaks setup which would just serve everything and i had little left to do much on my own so i thought time to be a bit daring. then i looked upon the internet and decided to go either with gentoo or slackware and reading about gentoo i found that i would have to compile everything from source :-( that gave me chills coz yeah while its true i have spare time but compiling everything from source is a clear NOOO for me ... i would better try to find something like SlackBuilds and AUR and use them and contribute to them :-),
My current setup
i have a 10 y/o laptop lying around and thats the one on which i have been using linux for the past ~2 years, currently its dual booted with ArcoLinux and Slackware and on the Arco installation i do my "normal" stuff and try to keep it stable and on slackware i am just finding new things to do every now and then and messing up with config files and scripts all around..
i rolled up Slackware purely for learning purposes because someone said "use debian and you would learn debian , use redhat and youd learn redhat , use slackware and youd learn linux " ...
And gladly i dont have any Nvidia graphics which gives me a little less pain in the butt while getting my distros up
