Texans' Caserio: Watson not expected to play in 1st preseason game
Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio told "SportsRadio 610" he doesn't expect Deshaun Watson to make the trip for the team's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Head coach David Culley said Watson's likely absence is due to a lack of practice reps, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop. The quarterback missed five training camp sessions before returning Monday because of reported injuries to his calf and ankle.
However, when asked if Watson will play at all this preseason, Culley said, "No comment."
The Texans have remained tight-lipped on Watson's future with the club. Caserio also told "SportsRadio 610" that he and Culley have had multiple conversations with the quarterback, though there are "a lot of moving parts" to the situation.
Watson is currently facing 22 civil lawsuits, while 10 criminal complaints were also filed against him.
Additionally, the 25-year-old reportedly requested a trade this offseason. He arrived for training camp, though, as he would've been subject to a $50,000 fine for each day he missed.
The Texans added quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor and Jeff Driskel this offseason. They also used a third-round pick on Stanford signal-caller Davis Mills.
