Kate faulty when printing

I don't think this has been aired before, but I have found that when trying to print a few sheets (of computer code) and when a header and footer are set, then using the single-page option each time (for my HP printer) gave inaccurate output.
I printed page 1 only (OK). But then page 2 (only) missed the first line, just as if the footer of page 1 had overwritten it.
The top of page 3 (only) was missing the first seven (I think) lines.
Clearly Kate seems faulty.
I was using version 20.12. Have tried the appimage version 21.08.0 but had trouble saving. Also I couldn't find a straight (non-appimage) version of 21.08. Is there one?
Apologies if this has been addressed before. I usually am happy with Kate but this single-page printing option seems dicey - it misbehaved for me!
I seem also to remember a "Schema" setting where you could set the font for your document on screen and also for your printer output. This seems to have disappeared.
