Hamilton-designed watch will soon hit the market
A new locally-designed watch will soon hit the market, courtesy of the newly-formed Locke and King watches. Founded by Ryan Moran, a partner in downtown's CoMotion coworking space, the company is offering presales for its first watch model - the James - until Aug. 20.
For design, we drew from the heritage of railroad watches, with a hint of field watch, for their connection to the history of the street," states the company's website, lockeandking.ca. The subtle sectored dial design references the classic clock of Hamilton's old city hall, a fixture of the street for over 130 years, now located in the City Centre clock tower."
The watches sell for between $400 and $500, with the first round expected to be ready this fall.
The presale has been amazing, currently at approximately 60 watches," Moran told the Spectator on Wednesday. My initial hope was for at least 25."
He says he started the company as a pandemic hobby and has spent many of his evenings and weekends for the past year getting it going. He said he has already gotten production underway on our next model, and will look to two more next year."
