New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson is undergoing an MRI on his Achilles after being carted off the practice field with a leg injury Thursday, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The 26-year-old reported that he felt a pop, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, prompting concern that he may have sustained a season-ending injury.

Lawson joined the Jets on a three-year, $45-million contract this offseason after four campaigns with the Cincinnati Bengals. New York is counting on him to improve a thin pass rush, and he's been one of the club's top performers at training camp.

Though the former fourth-round pick had only 5.5 sacks last season, he ranked sixth in the NFL with 64 quarterback pressures, per PFF. He has 20 sacks in 51 career games.

Lawson has a history of leg injuries. He tore his left ACL in 2014 while at Auburn and tore his right ACL in 2018 while with the Bengals.
