Sound only works in some apps on KDE desktop

I have sound in Firefox and XMMS, but I can't get any sound in Juk or Amarok. I don't know if this information helps, but it was posted in another thread about sound.

HDMI would only work with other equipment plugged into the machine, right? Like if I had a 2nd monitor or additional speaker connected to the machine? I don't know why that comes up as the first option. I don't know if that matters either. When I'm in pavucontrol and messing around with the settings, changing HDMI doesn't seem to do anything, since I don't have other equipment attached. So it seems that I'm more concerned with getting the PCH settings adjusted correctly. Even with that in mind, I'm not sure why some apps have sound and others don't.
