Screensaver Preferences window causing computer to freeze - Antmaze problematic?
by grumpyskeptic from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5NWFH)
I have Linux Mint Mate Uma 20.2, on an Inspiron 531 with 3GB of RAM.
I was looking at various screensavers in the preview window of Screensaver Preferences. It appears that it has become stuck on Antmaze which seems to be too demanding for the computer to cope with or get out of, either in the preview or otherwise.
When I evoke the Screensaver Preferences Window and try to click on anything, the whole screen briefly goes black and then comes back frozen. The cursor does not move, the clock does not work, and ctrl-alt-t does not produce the terminal. I have to restart the computer.
Just now when I left the computer idle I got a frozen black screen with a few grey lines, which looks like it could be the computer trying to display Antmaze. Nothing happened when I moved the cursor and tapped a few keys. I had to restart.
How to fix this problem please?
My guess would be to delete the apparently poisonous Antmaze, but I do not know how to do that.
Thanks.
Update: I have found this post about Antinspect, which is adjacent to Antmaze in the screensaver list, causing computer freezing. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=214413 Have not studied it yet.
