[SOLVED] slackpkg update fails
by Tekla from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5NX4H)
I am running slackware 14.0 on an old machine. Following the instructions on the slackpkg man page, I uncommented exactly one mirror for 14.0 in /etc/slackpkg/mirrors. Then I ran slackpkg update; but it failed with message "Connecting to slackware.mirrors.pair.com|216.92.2.153|:80.., failed: Connection timed out"
I also ran slackpkg update pkg also failed with the same message.
From a previous LQ message, which I can no longer find, I learned that the problem might be that slackpkg cannot see that I have uncommented exactly one mirror and rworkman provided a one line script to apply to slackpkg to check whether that might be the case. By running that script I found that it does not see that I have uncommented a single mirror.
The OP then found a replacement for line 40 of slackpkg that solved the problem for him, but as I said, I can no longer find the message. I believe that Alien Bob also contributed to that thread, if that's any help.
Does anyone have suggestions?
