Cloning disk questions please?

I am going to use Clonezilla (live boot USB) and I was wondering about what EXACTLY do I need to clone?

In Windows, as I had a separate data drive, all I would backup/image would be the C: drive. However in the Linux system I am not so sure of what I am doing.

I have it setup with a separate Home partition to the Root partition so is it ok to JUST clone the boot and root partitions? If I need to re-install it at a later stage, and I've added more apps and data etc, how would that affect a future Home partition?

IIRC, Clonezilla will create an image that is the "total" size of the drive, not just the used, and with a 500gig drive that makes a huge sized file.

I was thinking that perhaps I should shrink the Home, and tack on an additional partition where I can store all m y sample files and other audio production files.

I guess bottom line is, if I only do the boot and root, will I be able to essentially carry on after a fresh install of said image?

Thanks
PS: still pretty new to Linux, so I am not sure if I explained that all correctly???latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=OHRc0H1ugdM:cTNNWKPeYsY:F7zBnMy latest?i=OHRc0H1ugdM:cTNNWKPeYsY:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=OHRc0H1ugdM:cTNNWKPeYsY:gIN9vFwOHRc0H1ugdM
