The Detroit Lions released wide receiver Breshad Perriman ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline, the team announced Monday.

Perriman joined the Lions in March on a reported one-year, $3-million deal that contained $2 million guaranteed. He was expected to start alongside Tyrell Williams following the departure of Kenny Golladay to the New York Giants.

With Perriman gone, the inexperienced group of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Quintez Cephus, Kalif Raymond, and Geronimo Allison will provide depth behind Williams.

Perriman, 27, apparently struggled in training camp after dealing with a hip injury over the summer.

Originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2015 draft, Perriman notched 30 catches for 505 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games with the New York Jets in 2020.
