Report: Buccaneers working to restructure Evans' contract

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are working to restructure the contract of wide receiver Mike Evans to create additional cap space, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

The Buccaneers can convert Evans' $12.25-million base salary into a signing bonus to gain additional cap relief, Fowler adds. That would reduce the wide receiver's team-high $16.64-million cap hit.

Tampa Bay has just $270,339 in cap space, according to the latest report from the National Football League Players Association.

Evans has been a consistent force for the Buccaneers since they drafted him seventh overall in 2014. He's recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his seven NFL seasons.

The 28-year-old also played a prominent role in Tampa Bay's run to Super Bowl LV, and his 1,006 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns led the team last season.

He's entering the third year of a five-year, $82.5-million deal, according to Spotrac.
