Can't start any desktop environment from login manager
by browny_amiga from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5P0MT)
Hi,
I just updated my Debian 10 Buster Laptop to Debian 11 and now I can no longer login via the login manager (SDDM), I'm trying to log into KDE plasma, but gnome, LXDE, XFCE, they all fail.
I enter the password correctly, it is loading something, screen turns black, then...
login manager is back, no error, nothing. I can't find anything in the standard journalctl logs.
Why is the desktop environment not starting? Which display manager does Debian 11 use? Wayland or X11 or some kind of compatibility mode?
EDIT:
Just tried with GDM3, very same effect, just kicks me back to GDM again.
