Ashtray fire sparks thousands in damage at Jackson Street West residence

A fire overnight at a residence on Jackson Street West caused $7,500.
Emergency services were called to the fire at a multi-unit home on Jackson, between Pearl and Locke streets, around 3 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2.
The fire was contained to a unit at the back of the home and began in an ashtray, said Hamilton police.
No one was hurt and the Red Cross has been called to help residence who need housing.
Jackson was closed from Pearl to Locke.
