Unable to install Slackware-Current on Mid-2009 Macbook
by captkrill from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5P5W7)
Hi all,
Been trying to build an EFI bootable USB for 32bit-current to use on an old macbook pro (C2Duo 2009 - i think this is a 32bit UEFI which is another potential facet of the problem).
So far I have tried building it from a Nov-2020-current iso I found while digging, a clean iso build using mirror-slackware-current.sh and various combinations of dd & usbimg2disk all having failed.
Even dug out an old CD-ROM writer just to try a mini-iso and see if I could get it to boot from elilo. Furthest I have gotten is just installing slack from a DVD and trying to chroot with refind and that seemed to work for a bit and then just quit working.
Tried making a boot disk from scratch (alienbob) that that got further than most of the other USB options but got stuck at Loading initrd.img....Done...then nothing
I'm obviously missing something, but not sure what it is. Any help would be appreciated.
I did have one specific question; in the EFI partition, for a 32bit OS, should the BOOT.EFI (BOOTX86.EFI?) be the elilo-ia32.efi or does the BOOTX64.EFI (from the elilo package linked from the Slackwiki) include 32-bit compatibility? That has been one that my reading hasn't answered yet.
Thank you kindly
