'So popular and busy': Well-known Burlington restaurant permanently closed after lease terminated, leaving some residents unhappy

Some Burlington residents are feeling disappointed with the sudden closure of a popular eatery.

Inside Halton has learned that Montfort Mediterranean Grill, best known for its shawarmas and garlic sauce, was ordered to close its location at Burlington Centre mall recently after mall owners terminated the tenancy "for failure to comply with the requirements to pay rent under your lease agreement," according to a termination of lease notice posted next to the establishment by management and mall landlord RK (Burlington Mall) Inc., stating the termination was effective since Aug. 16, 2021:

Montfort has yet to reply to multiple requests for comment on the closure.

News of the sudden closure caught many mall shoppers and foodies by surprise.

"What? So popular and always busy anytime I went there," said Domenic Nemeh.

Kimen Elias meanwhile, said Montfort was "my go-to place" anytime she was shopping in the mall.

"Not happy about it," she said.

There are several Montfort restaurant locations nearby Burlington Centre, including the Brant Drive location.
