want to come back to same line when i restart emacs for same file

i use emacs because the editing keys are now hardwired into my brain (and it is half-way decent helping me edit python). i'd like to be able to easily start it up to resume editing and have it come back to the line i was last on when exited editing that file. i don't know any (E)LISP and have no clue where to even start. i'd expect it to save the line number in a hidden file near the file i was editing. i do have a script to start emacs so i could start it at the line number if the script can read in from somewhere. anything around to do this (and how to set it up) ?latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=NlqM0Sa61vc:7MllCsQSXTg:F7zBnMy latest?i=NlqM0Sa61vc:7MllCsQSXTg:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=NlqM0Sa61vc:7MllCsQSXTg:gIN9vFwNlqM0Sa61vc
