Mattina Pizzeria on Cannon Street has closed

A staple pizza shop has closed its doors after 40 years feeding Hamilton.

Mattina Pizzeria, located at 104 Cannon St. E., announced on social media Sunday that it was closing its doors immediately.

The restaurant's website was taken down by Monday morning and an Instagram post showed what looked to be a farewell event where staff posed under a sign that read, Good bye Mattina, it's been a slice."

It isn't just the authentic pizza or the slices that residents will miss. The restaurant also featured many Portuguese dishes that were catered for small and large events.

No reason was given for the closure.
