Report: Texans' Taylor ruled out for Week 3 due to hamstring injury
Houston Texans quarterback Tyrod Taylor suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's 31-21 loss to the Cleveland Browns and wasn't able to finish the game.
Taylor will have an MRI on his hamstring Monday to determine the severity of his ailment, but he won't be available to play against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football in Week 3, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Davis Mills will likely replace Taylor. Mills, a third-round rookie, took over at quarterback for the Texans against Cleveland after Taylor was sidelined.
The 32-year-old Taylor was limping on the field after scoring a 15-yard rushing touchdown late in the second quarter. The veteran passer still played one more offensive possession before halftime, but he was eventually ruled out.
Mills threw for 102 yards and one touchdown against one interception on 8-of-18 passing in his first NFL appearance.
Taylor, who joined Houston as a free agent this year, led the Texans past the Jacksonville Jaguars with a solid performance in Week 1, and he was producing another strong outing against the Browns. The veteran completed 10 of 11 pass attempts for 125 yards and one touchdown before being sidelined with the game tied 14-14.
With Taylor sidelined and Mills set to start, it's unclear who will be Houston's backup passer in Week 3.
The Texans' quarterback depth chart also features Deshaun Watson, who was inactive for the second straight game Sunday despite not being given an injury designation.
