problem running sddm from init 4 on current
by timsoft from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5PVR3)
hi all, I have an interesting problem.
hardware spec:
the hardware is an old imac, which requires radeon.nomodeset=0 kernel append in order to be able to use the keyboard on startup. I also installed x framebuffer from extra, as x/wayland seems to need it as radeon/ati driver needs modesetting to work.
I have put on current as of 21/9/21 so it has 5.14.6 kernel
issue:
I can run startx or startkwayland once I have logged in via usual init3 as a regular user, so I know that they both "work"
Changing inittab to use init 4 as the default, and (from adding comments in rc.4) I can see that it tries to run sddm, but nothing happens, and I am left still with the text login. I did check vt7 incase it managed to open but didn't switch, but nothing doing there.
Any ideas on what to check? The fact that both x and wayland start manually points the finger at sddm doing something odd.
