One of the most anticipated games of the year takes place on Oct. 3 when Tom Brady returns to Foxborough, leading the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the New England Patriots.

Not even 24 hours after Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick discussed the dynamics of Brady's departure and impending return.

Belichick was asked when his mindset changed about Brady, after saying in the past there was no other quarterback he'd rather have.

"It never changed," Belichick said on WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show," according to Hayden Bird of the Boston Globe.

"Tom and I had I feel like a good relationship and a lot of production obviously while we were together. I enjoyed coaching Tom. He was a great player for us."

Together, Belichick and Brady led a Patriots dynasty that resulted in six Super Bowl wins.

However, following the 2019 season, Brady left New England and signed with the Buccaneers in free agency.

Questions have lingered about whether the Patriots - and Belichick, in particular - tried hard enough to keep their franchise quarterback.

"We weren't as good an option as Tampa," Belichick responded. "So I mean you'd have to ask him about all of that, but it wasn't a question of not wanting him. That's for sure."

Brady returns to his old stomping grounds on Sunday Night Football.
