Brady: Nothing I see about my relationship with Belichick is accurate
Tom Brady addressed his relationship with New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick following his 19-17 homecoming victory against his former team.
After a brief postgame embrace between the iconic duo, Belichick went into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' locker room and spent about 20 minutes talking privately with Brady, according to ESPN's Jeff Darlington.
"We've had a personal relationship for 20-plus years. He drafted me here. We had a lot of personal conversations that should remain that way. They're very private," Brady said, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.
"I would say, so much is made of our relationship. ... Nothing is really accurate that I ever see. It definitely doesn't come from my personal feelings or beliefs."
Brady noted he was "emotional" at times in the buildup to his first return to Foxborough since leaving the franchise after 20 years in 2020. The former Patriots quarterback brought the organization to new heights during his tenure, winning six Super Bowls.
The Patriots presented Brady with a pregame video tribute and fans gave the quarterback a warm welcome as he took the field.
"It was awesome. I tried not to predict what was going to happen and how I would feel," Brady said. "Had a few emotional moments this week just thinking about the people that have really meant so much to me in my life and that are a part of this community. Just very grateful for an amazing time here."
Brady noted Patriots fans should expect to see him again, telling the broadcast he plans to be a part of the community after his playing days are over, according to Adam Kaufman of iHeartRadio.
The 44-year-old also managed to add one more historic feat to his already decorated resume in his Foxborough return, shattering the NFL all-time record for career passing yards with a first-quarter completion.
