ssl or vhost config

Working on a replacement red hat server. Old 1 is rhel 7, new is rhel 8.
It currently runs multiple sites, and I have a wildcard ssl cert for it.
I didn't set up the old server, so I am not sure what all was done. Or how to tell which conf files are in use.
Do I need to set up both, a vhost and ssl.conf file, or just a ssl.conf?
Right now, the existing server shows both, but only the ssl.conf shows the certs being used.
Kinda learning webdev as I go.
