A man was taken to hospital with an injured leg after falling about 100 metres down the escarpment off Scenic Drive on Tuesday night, trying to rescue a dropped cellphone.

Emergency services were called to the area, near Denlow Avenue, shortly before 8 p.m. Oct. 5.

The man said he was taking pictures to post on Instagram, when he dropped his phone over a fence, said Hamilton police. He climbed over the fence to retrieve it and fell.

The man was able to crawl back up to the top where he was lifted to safety and taken by paramedics to hospital.
