Ottawa Senators head coach D.J. Smith announced Thursday that forward Colin White will undergo surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder and is expected to miss four-to-six months, according to Sportsnet's Kyle Bukauskas.

White, 24, suffered the injury during a preseason game Monday after getting tangled up with Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf.

Colin White falls awkwardly and heads down the tunnel for some medical attention.

White scored 10 goals and added eight assists in 45 games last season. He was projected to center Ottawa's third line this season, but the club will now have to change its plans.

The Senators drafted White 21st overall in 2015. He put up a career-high 41 points during the 2018-19 campaign, which led to a six-year, $28.5-million deal the following summer.
