I can't ping across a switch

I have machine A (mA) and machine B (mB) plus a Modem/Router (MR) all connected to one switch.

I usually just have mA. It connects to the MR for Internet access through/across the switch.

The switch is as basic as can be, it has no controls, I can't SSH to it or anything. I don't know if it has an IP number. If it does, I don't know what it is. Only mA turns up in the output of 'arp -n'.

I know mA has an IP in the 192.168.*.* LAN.

Now I'm also having mB over. It also runs Linux. It has an IP in the 10.60.*.* LAN.

I would like to ping (and SSH) mB from mA. I can't. Like I said, only mA turns up in the output of 'arp -a'. Is it possible to make the two machines talk?

Some additional info that may or may not be relevant:

If I connect the two machines to the switch and reset the switch, mA connects to mB and gets an IP in the 10.60.*.* LAN. That's not too bad. My first goal here is to SSH into mB and recover a bunch of files in it before I format mB. But then mA "skips" the MR and I have no Internet access.

In order to have Internet access again, I have to disconnect mB from the switch and reset the switch. Then I connect mB to the switch. Then I have Internet access again. But then mA can't reach mB.

After I format mB, I am going to need Internet on mA and SSH access from mA to mB. Is that possible? Across the switch?

Sorry if any part of my description is confusing.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=_6ZTj2JNjYg:goEVkShNLD4:F7zBnMy latest?i=_6ZTj2JNjYg:goEVkShNLD4:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=_6ZTj2JNjYg:goEVkShNLD4:gIN9vFw_6ZTj2JNjYg
