Joanne Emberson had been looking for a new location for her bakeshop business for more than a year.

We wanted a location where there is more walk-in traffic," said the owner of Crumbuns, which is moving from the plaza on Concession Street east of Upper Sherman, where they have been since December 2016, to 566 Concession across the street from the public library. We lucked out finding this place."

Renovation work on the new space began in September and the official opening is slated for Oct. 23.

Emberson said the new 2,500-square-foot location is more than double the size of the current bakeshop and it comes at a similar rental price.

We're going to really expand," said Emberson, who plans to bolster their on-site baked goods to include savoury items and homemade pizza.

Emberson said the move includes a significant investment of many thousands of dollars," including all new equipment.

Her father Joe has been doing much of the renovation work.

Emberson, who also has a stall at the Hamilton Mountain Farmers' Market each Friday afternoon, figures the new location is 80 per cent finished with the counter tops and ovens still to be installed.

The move will see the business increase from three to five staff and there are plans to add a seating area once coronavirus pandemic restrictions are eased.

Emberson noted opening day will feature some specials and a crew from unboxed TV will be there to record a dessert-tasting program.

The Concession BIA is thrilled to have Crumbuns relocating into this larger space," said business improvement area executive director Cristina Geissler. This is tying into the wonderful growth we are seeing on Concession Street, adding their tasty scratch-baking treats to the delicious mix of food options available to the community."
