Jared Goff took notice when his former coach Sean McVay said he regrets how he handled the trade that sent the quarterback to the Detroit Lions.

McVay said earlier this week that he wishes there was "better, clearer communication" with his former signal-caller when Goff was traded to Detroit in January in exchange for Matthew Stafford.

I appreciate it," Goff said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Eric Woodyard. It takes a man to say something like that. ... It still happened the way it did, but I do appreciate him saying that."

Goff, who spent the first five years of his career with the Los Angeles Rams, is set to take on his former club Sunday for the first time since the trade. Goff says he is still bothered by the deal, but he remembers the good times in Los Angeles.

The sourness is there still from how it ended, but there's so much more of good things that happened that make you appreciative for those times," Goff added, according to Chris Burke of The Athletic.

McVay praised his former quarterback when asked about Goff's comments later Wednesday.

"He's quality, class act," McVay said, according to ESPN's Lindsey Thiry. "He's always going to be honest, but he's a great kid, he's a great guy. I really enjoyed the time with him and I think we've kind of talked about that."

The Rams are 5-1 this season with Stafford under center while Goff is still searching for his first win with the Lions.
