Two charged in drug overdose death of 1-year-old boy in southwest Cambridge
Two people related to the victim have been charged in what has been determined as a drug overdose death of a one-year-old boy six months ago.
Waterloo Region police said officers responded to an incident that occurred on May 4, shortly after 2 p.m., at a residence on Byton Lane in southwest Galt after a 911 call reported a one-year-old male child in distress.
The boy was located without vital signs and transported to Cambridge Memorial Hospital, but was later pronounced deceased.
Police assisted the coroner's office with its death investigation and as a result of information gathered, began a criminal investigation.
On Oct. 27, a 38-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Cambridge, were arrested and charged with criminal negligence causing death.
Both were scheduled to appear in Kitchener's Ontario Court of Justice Oct. 27.
