Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is confident he'll play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, but he's still waiting on a green light from his club.

"I want to play just because I want to be out there and help my team," Prescott said Thursday, according to USA Today's Jori Epstein. "Obviously, missing the time that I did last year was no fun. But knowing we're a contender (and) can grow, I can understand the big picture."

Prescott is dealing with a calf strain that has limited his participation at practice over the last two weeks. The ailment reportedly won't cause Prescott to miss any games, but the Cowboys have yet to confirm the signal-caller's status for Sunday Night Football following their bye week.

"It's not fully my decision because there is a bigger picture," the two-time Pro Bowler said, according to the Dallas Morning News' Michael Gehlken.

"I don't want this to linger past this week," added Prescott, who also believes his calf issue has something to do with the season-ending ankle injury he suffered in 2020.

"We're trying to push it as far as we can right now," head coach Mike McCarthy said of Prescott's rehab.

Dallas entered its bye last week as one of the NFL's hottest teams after winning five straight, and the offense currently ranks first in points and yards per game.

Prescott, 28, has put himself in early MVP conversations and is on pace for a career year. He's completed 73.1% of his pass attempts while tossing 16 touchdowns against only four interceptions through six starts.
