Packers' Tonyan out for season with torn ACL

Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan suffered a torn ACL in Thursday's win against the Arizona Cardinals and won't return this season, his agent announced Friday.

Tonyan sustained the ailment in the third quarter versus the Cardinals on a 32-yard reception, the Packers' longest play of the night.

The injury is a significant hit to Green Bay's receiving corps, which faced Arizona without wide receivers Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Tonyan, who broke out last year with 586 yards and 11 touchdowns on 52 receptions, ranks third on the team in targets (29), catches (18), and yards (204) this season behind Adams and running back Aaron Jones. The 27-year-old has also racked up two scores.

With veteran Marcedes Lewis and Josiah Deguara the only tight ends left on the depth chart, the Packers may add another player at the position to the active roster before their Week 9 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Lewis and Deguara have 13 receptions and 136 yards combined this year.
