An Oakville man has died following a two-vehicle crash that brought Niagara-bound traffic on the QEW in Stoney Creek to a standstill for hours on Friday morning.

In a tweet Friday afternoon, OPP said Noah Ferrusi, 20, of Oakville, had been killed in a crash that occurred around 6:15 a.m.

Deepest condolences to his family and friends," read the tweet.

OPP opened all lanes of the QEW just after noon on Friday, hours after Hamilton emergency crews, along with OPP, responded to the two-vehicle crash near Fruitland Road.

In a Twitter video, Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the OPP said that, at the time of the collision, the highway was dark and there was congestion as a result of construction further up the road.

As a result, all traffic was being forced into the left lanes.

Schmidt said the transport truck involved in the collision was slowing or stopped" when it was rear-ended by a passenger vehicle in the live lane.

The vehicle collided with the back corner of the transport's trailer and came to rest on its roof, Schmidt said. The driver, later identified as Ferrusi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The transport truck driver was uninjured in the crash and there was minimal damage to the transport, police said.

The OPP collision reconstruction unit is investigating. Police ask witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the traffic at that time are asked to call the Burlington OPP.
