The New Orleans Saints aren't thinking about turning to an old foe to save their season.

New Orleans won't pursue free-agent quarterback Cam Newton immediately after Jameis Winston reportedly suffered a season-ending knee injury in Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a source told Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.

The Saints reportedly intend to first give backups Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian the chance to replace Winston.

Siemian led the Saints to a shocking 36-27 win over the reigning Super Bowl champions, throwing for 159 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Hill - who started five games last season when Drew Brees was sidelined - has been out since suffering a concussion on Oct. 10.

The New England Patriots released Newton prior to the start of the campaign after he appeared to be the favorite for the AFC East club's starting job throughout the offseason.

The 2015 MVP struggled in his lone campaign under center for the Patriots last season. He threw for a career-low 2,657 yards and eight touchdowns against 10 interceptions, adding 592 yards and 12 scores on the ground.

Newton recently said he's received offers from unspecified teams and that he wants to continue his NFL career.
