How do I forward ports to Router with iptables?

I have a linux system running as a client, I have a hardware router Arris. All the port forwarding I have read doesn't work because the examples are for people using a linux system as a router. I have tried many tutorials and can't forward ports to my hardware router which is not a linux system.
