Prescott: 'Safe to say' I'll play Week 9 vs. Broncos
Dak Prescott is back.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback said Thursday it's "safe to say" he'll be ready to return from his one-game absence Sunday against the Denver Broncos, according to Jori Epstein of USA Today.
Prescott was a full participant at Thursday's practice for the first time since suffering a calf strain in Week 6, and head coach Mike McCarthy said the plan is for the signal-caller to play in Week 9, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.
"I feel good," Prescott added. "I had two great days of practice. I'm looking forward to Sunday."
The two-time Pro Bowler added he's "pretty close" to being 100%, per Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News.
Prescott suffered the calf injury on the last play of the game against the New England Patriots in Week 6. Dallas had a bye in Week 7, but the extra time wasn't enough for the quarterback, who missed the Cowboys' victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
Backup Cooper Rush enjoyed a solid performance in his first career start in Week 8, throwing for 325 yards and two touchdowns against one interception on 24-for-40 passing.
Prescott put his name in MVP conversations through the first six weeks of the campaign after tossing 16 touchdowns to four interceptions to go along with a 115 passer rating. The 28-year-old has completed a league-leading 73.1% of his throws.
The Cowboys enter Week 9 as winners of six straight games, the second-longest active streak in the NFL.
"We feel like we've got something really special going with our locker room and everything that's going on," McCarthy said, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. "But we're about beating Denver. I think the overview questions, the big-picture questions, we have to answer them ... We need to keep winning."
