Report: Beckham may return punts on MNF vs. 49ers
Odell Beckham Jr. is still getting up to speed with the Los Angeles Rams, but Rams head coach Sean McVay apparently wants to get the ball in his new weapon's hands however he can.
The star wide receiver, who signed with the Rams on Thursday, could be used as an occasional punt returner Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers as part of a package of plays designed for him, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It will be surprising if L.A. opts to use Beckham as a returner after fellow wideout Robert Woods tore his ACL at practice Friday, weakening what was poised to be one of the NFL's strongest receiving corps.
Beckham, 29, only returned one punt in his two-and-half-year stint with the Cleveland Browns. But he did rack up 21 punt returns during his star-making rookie season with the New York Giants in 2014.
The Rams reportedly beat out the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, and Seattle Seahawks for Beckham, whom the Browns released after their relationship soured over the trade deadline.
Beckham reportedly signed a one-year, incentive-laden deal worth up to $4.5 million with Los Angeles.
