Washington Football Team quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to miss the remainder of the 2021 campaign with a hip subluxation injury suffered in the season opener, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fitzpatrick is still experiencing swelling and pain in the injured area, Rapoport adds. His last MRI reportedly showed improvement, but the quarterback can't begin rehabbing until he is free from pain and swelling.

Washington signed Fitzpatrick to a one-year contract this past offseason. He played just 16 snaps in Week 1 before suffering the injury.

Fitzpatrick, who turns 39 on Nov. 24, was reportedly expected to miss six-to-eight weeks when he first suffered the injury. Washington head coach Ron Rivera was coy about the passer's status this week, telling reporters he'd made some progress but that it wasn't "way up," according to Rapoport.

Taylor Heinicke has made seven starts in Fitzpatrick's absence, throwing for 11 touchdowns against nine interceptions. The 28-year-old has won just two of those contests as Washington sits last in the NFC East at 2-6.
