Washington's Young out for season with torn ACL
Washington Football Team defensive end Chase Young will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in Sunday's win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, coach Ron Rivera confirmed Monday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Young walked off the field under his own power Sunday after going down to the ground in pain during the second quarter. However, he was spotted on crutches in the second half and didn't return to the game.
Young, 22, recorded 26 tackles, three tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks through nine contests this campaign.
The 2020 second overall selection was named Defensive Rookie of the Year last season after racking up 44 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 10 tackles for loss.
Washington is also without pass-rusher Montez Sweat, who's on injured reserve with a fractured jaw.
The NFC East club will now likely employ a defensive end rotation that includes Shaka Toney, James Smith-Williams, and Casey Toohill.
Washington will take on head coach Ron Rivera's former club, the Carolina Panthers, on Sunday.
