How to find the name of elements in my desktop environment

Ive been editing a theme for my Linux mint cinnamon DE by changing the cinnamon.CSS file and i'm having trouble identifying each element by its name in the CSS file.
For example, I didn't know what the pop-up menus were until I changed its colour and was able to see a visible change. I was curious if there was any tool that could essential inspect element on my desktop so they could be more easily identifiable or if there was a good guide or reference out there that would help instead of just having to figure it out through trial and error.
