[SOLVED] Is there a special reason why Patrick's mkinitrd script now recommends 2 crc32 modules?

I just installed a new kernel on Slackware-current and noticed a couple of new recommended modules for the initrd that involve crc32c. I gather from DDG that this has something to do with calculating checksums.
