The Seattle Seahawks have signed veteran running back Adrian Peterson to the practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how he does and see where he can fit in," head coach Pete Carroll said. "He's an incredible competitor and a great guy, so I'm anxious to give him a chance to get on the field with our boys."

The Tennessee Titans waived Peterson in late November after three games. He rushed for 82 yards and averaged 3 yards per carry with Tennessee.

Peterson, who is eligible to be elevated to the active roster for games, will look to aid an injury-riddled Seattle running back room. The Seahawks lost starter Chris Carson to season-ending neck surgery, while Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer have also been banged up.

Peterson, 36, ranks fifth in NFL history with 14,902 rushing yards.

The Seahawks are coming off a Monday Night Football loss to the Washington Football Team and have lost six of their last seven games. Seattle sits last in the NFC West at 3-8.
