UPDATE: Power failures affecting Hamilton’s east Mountain and Stoney Creek
Alectra Utilities is reporting two separate power failures on Thursday morning.
One is affecting 609 residents on the Hamilton Mountain and the other has left 2,120 residents and businesses in Stoney Creek in the dark.
Just before 7 a.m., Alectra Utilities said the affected area on the east Mountain runs from Upper Ottawa Street to Mountain Brow Boulevard, and the Lincoln Alexander Parkway to Mohawk Road East.
First reported in a tweet at 1:21 a.m., that power failure initially affected 2,500 customers.
The cause of the outage was determined by Alectra repair crews to be an underground distribution problem involving damage to cables.
Power on the east Mountain is expected to be restored by 11 a.m.
In Stoney Creek, an overhead distribution problem was determined to be the cause of a power failure in the area from Greenford Drive to Green Road, and Queenston Road to Ridge Road.
Power in Stoney Creek is expected to return by noon, the utilities provider says.
