Replacing Old Laptop
by borgward from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5SP94)
I will be replacing 2006 Dell Inspiron 1520. Considering 2015 MacBook Pro Retina. My neighbor gave me one that was in Bahama salt air too long. It was not too hard to get into. My concern is the SSD. I believe it is proprietary. That's iffy for me.
Will that Macbook boot to an external drive? Would have to as I have a Mint OS configured for installing on a Mac.
Is there a device to connect a Mac SSD to another computer via USB?
My othe option would be to get a newer used Dell Laptop that would have similar performance to the 2015 MacBook. I am thinking Dell because I live near Austin where it's easy to get Dell parts.
