Police investigating melee between Ticats fan and Argos players
Toronto police are investigating an altercation between a Hamilton Tiger-Cats fan and Toronto Argonauts players following the CFL East final between the Ticats and host Argos Sunday.
In multiple videos posted online, a person wearing Ticats gear can be seen engaging with defensive back Chris Edwards on a concrete walkway at BMO Field. The interaction turns physical.
First, the fan appears to lunge at Edwards, who was still clad in his uniform, including his helmet. Edwards then appears to take a swing at the fan, before wide receiver Dejon Brissett - also still in uniform - gets involved.
The melee appears to end when police and members of the BMO security team intervene.
Before the altercation, Brissett can be seen climbing up from field level onto the concrete walkway.
Toronto police told the Spectator two men allegedly jumped a barricade and attempted to fight the players."
Those two men were assaultive with the staff and police," they added. They were both charged with trespassing and removed from the area, police said.
Police would not confirm the Ticats fan in the video was among those charged. They would also not say whether either of the men charged were from Hamilton.
No players have been charged. Police say their investigation is ongoing.
A CFL spokesperson said the league is reviewing the incident.
The Ticats advanced to next weekend's Grey Cup in Hamilton with a 27-19 win over Toronto. They'll face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
