The man driving the car in which 20-year-old Mackenzie Mann was killed in a high-speed crash last year was sentenced to four years in prison Monday morning.

The sentence for Bulend (Typhoon) Dikici was read by Justice Tory Colvin at John Sopinka Courthouse.

Dikici is now 19, but was 18 on June 3, 2020, when he raced through the four-way intersection at Airport Road and Nebo Road in Glanbrook and T-boned another car. The impact killed Mann, riding in the back seat of his car.

Dikici had pleaded guilty to criminal negligence causing death, and three counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm for the injuries he caused to two male passengers in his car, and the driver of the vehicle he hit.

The judge said the Crown had called for a sentence of six to eight years, while the defence had suggested a sentence of two to three years.

More to come.
