Which log file that keep log of what happened to my external HDD ?"could not enter folder /run/media/user/6TB my book"
by andrewysk from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5T5AJ)
Manjaro KDE.
How it happened: -sluggish
--------------
I was doing opening browsing firefox (as normal, many tabs) and looking for files in 6TB hdd via dolphin... and some how the computer respond become somewhat laggy..
annoyed.
so laggy that i became annoyed and left and right button clicking and moving mouse there and here on dolphin empty place waiting impatiently for it to respond to my initial clicking.
I thought the sluggish is again due to firefox (many tabs) issue, because it happens manytime on this laptop (due to low physical mem)
htop - sigterm
--------------------
As usual. i just htop to see that firefox taken up high cpu%. F9, sigterm it and rerun firefox with all those tabs (make it start off offline) will temporary fix the firefox draining resources issue.
However when i htop and kill the firefox, i notice there is another thing also draw as much cpu% as firefox.. it names something like "mount......" something something with some command behind..
i didn't think of anything, my finger acted faster: sigterm-ed both firefox and that "mount" PID..
6TB hdd is no longer accessible
--------------------------------
Although the desktop respond back to normal, but sadly my 6TB hdd is no longer accessible.
it is mount, but it said "could not enter folder /run/media/user/6TB my book"
Now that is sickening, as if i have too much time to waste on such thing.. But all my fault. hate myself for that.. idiot.
Notice weird thing (htop sigterm firefox, but firefox still running)
-------------------------------
i have used killall firefox and htop > sigterm > firefox manytime in my course of using linux.. it always kills firefox and make my system stable again.. however this time my firefox still "standing".. it didn't closed...
but what is the "firefox" that drained my cpu resources tat i just terminated before the "mount...." thread ?!
I didn't saw that i have clicked any context menu that causing my 6tb hdd to delete or something (not that i noticed, because i did look away from the monitor, waiting for it to respond to me)
Is it firefox pages or something from internet send some command to ruin my hdd ? **i highly doubt it** but this is the first time i notice when i sigterm firefox; my firefox still running fine.. firefox didnt closed.
NEED HELP to analyze the 6TB hdd log and save my data please.
------------------------------------------------------
After a few tried on dolphin to the the 6TB hdd with failure, i dismounted the 6TB hdd.
All my backup and data are located on this 6TB alone.. if i lost it, i lost ALL my data and all BACKUPs.
Which log and What to look for to know what had just happened ?
----------------------------------------------------------------
I am trying to look into journalctl for anything i can identify that related to 6TB hdd, but i don't know what i am looking for..
Is this even the correct log to look into ?
Manjaro KDE does not have /var/log/syslog file
What is the keyword to look for ?
