Hamilton police are investigating after a man in his 20s was shot outside a John Street South restaurant overnight.

Police were called to John and Jackson Street East shortly after midnight Friday, Dec. 17, said Const. Indy Bharaj. The victim had been shot twice and was transported by paramedics to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives believe there was an altercation involving the victim and several suspects outside the restaurant when the victim was shot.

All suspects fled before police arrived.

Police have processed the crime scene, but are expected to be in the area Friday canvassing for witnesses and anyone with surveillance video.

This is believed to be the 35th shooting in Hamilton this year. There have been 20 victims shot, including seven deaths.

The latest shooting remains under investigation by the Division 1 Criminal Investigation Branch. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Const. Alex Buck at 905-546-3817.
